About me



I am Khumbu Ngidi (20)  from Ulundi B North. I am currently studying my 3rd year in Public Relations Management at University of Zululand. In my forthcoming semester, I'm also searching for some hands-on experience. I am a smart, diligent, and goal-oriented woman with ambitions. After graduation, my goal is to continue my education and study PGCE in order to find a career that is a good fit for me.

My long-term goal for my blog is to produce articles about the beauty of Zulu culture on my website. I'm highly intrigued in AmaZulu's way of life. Traditional clothing, traditional marriages, umemulo, reed dance, Traditional atirres and dresses, umhlonyane ceremony, lobola and Umkhehlo traditional ceremony are all topics that I must discuss. 

I'd be ecstatic if you showed interest in my stuff and helped it succeed. Please get more interested in Zulu culture and assist me in taking these first steps toward my Zulu culture. I'm hoping that others will be interested in it as well and will offer support.

Umkhehlo Traditional Ceremony

Umkhehlo  (Zulu engagement  ceremony ) is a rite of passage  ceremony  for a Zulu woman about to get married. Family, friends, neighbours, and her in-laws come and rejoice and pin money on her hat, scarf, and umbrella. This money is given so as to help her prepare for the wedding and buy gifts (umabo) for her in-laws. Umkhehlo  is a Zulu traditional pre-wedding ceremony. the ceremony is done for a woman who is about to get married. it takes place after lobola has been paid.  Through this ceremony, she is basically saying goodbye goodbye to her family. The groom buys the cow for the ceremony and the woman is showered with money and other gifts. She also dresses the cow fat called umhlwehlwe. others have called it the Zulu Bridal Shower or the Traditional Engagement Ceremony.

Umhlonyane Ceremony

When a girl reaches the age of womanhood, the Zulu people perform a traditional ceremony called umhlonyane (depending on what age they reach it). For this event, the family's head (usually a father) slaughters a goat. The child is kept in a separate room away from other people a week before the ceremony, where she will stay inside and emerge on the day of the ceremony. By the time she enters the room, the elder ladies had arrived to provide her advice and guidance on how to behave as a teen (itshitshi -Zulu maiden). The girl's friends (of the same age) come to stay with her until the next day before the ceremony. All of the girls cover themselves in 'white soil.' They go to the water to wash their bodies in the morning. They sing traditional songs that are pertinent to the event on their way back to the homestead. They wear izigege (traditional Zulu girl's clothing) and beads. They sing and dance in the house as a sign that the girl is still under the care and contr

Traditions, rites, and rituals are not taken for granted in Africa. The BEAUTY of "African" culture and heritage is one-of-a-kind, and we must tell her narrative. One of these is the Umemulo ritual. The Zulu rite of umemulo, or "coming of age," commemorates a young girl's transition into womanhood. The ritual marks the young girl's transition from a kid to a mature adult capable of marrying. This ritual can be performed at any point in a woman's life, although it is most typically performed when she is 21 years old. The Umemulo ritual was once carried out by young females who valued their bodies. Whether the female is a virgin or not, the ritual is now performed. The event is a method for these women's parents to express their gratitude for their daughters' obedience to their lessons, for valuing herself, her family, and the community.
